Andreina: (laughs) Oh, that was a classic! We were on FaceTime, and Jas was getting ready. The thing is, she forgot to tell me we had a date. So, there I was, in my feelings because she casually drops the bomb an hour before. I’ve never shaved my legs so fast in my life! We watched ‘Us’ by Jordan Peele and grabbed sushi. Mid-date, I just sat next to Jas and declared my intentions – finish up with those other girls because I’m the one. (laughs) I totally manifested that.
Their serendipitous meeting on Tinder has become a cherished part of their love story, signifying the unpredictability and magic of fate. It’s a reminder that sometimes the most extraordinary moments can stem from seemingly ordinary circumstances. A Cherry Blossom-Themed Proposal
Ty Sintrell: Fast forward to the engagement – a cherry blossom-themed proposal. Jas, take us through that memorable day.
Jas: (smiles) It was a bit stressful, to be honest. The day I made the payment for the ring, we got into a car accident. But I wanted our proposal to be special, so we had a picnic with cherry blossom vibes – one of our memorable dates. It was beautiful, even though the food wasn’t the best. Friends and family came from everywhere, and the best surprise was turning around and seeing them there. Oh, and the ring arrived after the proposal – talk about last-minute suspense!
Jas’s proposal to Andreina was nothing short of magical. They meticulously planned a stunning cherry blossom-themed picnic, complete with a beautiful blanket adorned with cherry blossom petals, fairy lights intertwined with the branches, and a delectable spread of their favorite foods. Andreina: (laughs) Oh, chile! It was stressful, navigating that with the uncertainty of the Supreme Court. We had a small ceremony in DC, then Silver Diner with our closest ones – and it was perfect! We blended our families the best we could, and despite some bumps, the moment we walked down the aisle was just perfect. I’m so glad we did it when we did.
Ty Sintrell: Any advice for couples planning their wedding?
Andreina: This is YOUR wedding. Make it what YOU and your partner want. Politely decline what doesn’t serve you. We invited people we regretted and didn’t invite some we wish were there. Take time to enjoy small moments; it’s not about the bells and whistles.
Jas: Stick to your budget! (laughs)

Jas: We personalized it. My suit jacket had my initials, and Andreina had gloves with our favorite saying, “Biddy Bop! Body Beep!” We included details for loved ones who had passed. We also took a moment to acknowledge Jas’ brother who had passed away. In Andreina’s arrangement, she had a pendant with her grandmother’s picture, who passed that summer. Our sweet friend Nancy officiated – we love her!

Ty Sintrell: Marriage brings its own joys and challenges. What has it brought for both of you?
Andreina: For me, marriage allowed me to embrace a more nurturing role. I find joy in traditional things, not because society expects it, but because they bring me happiness.
Jas: We’ve become better individuals. Marriage has been a journey of healing and growth for both of us. It brought me a sense of purpose to stop and enjoy life. Showed her importance of stomping and smelling the roses, opening up my heart more… things aren’t as bad as I may think if I am open. My wife has taught me that if I am open a bit more the world isn’t as bad. Marriage has emphasized partnership and it’s showed how well we work as a team

Ty Sintrell: Identifying within the LGBTQ+ community – tell us about your journeys.
Andreina: It took me years. I held onto the term bisexual for comfort, but I let it go when I truly found myself in Maryland. Having people who look like me, straight-passing but gay AF, brings a sense of belonging. I do want to make sure this is something that is said, don’t let people invalidate your sexuality because you don’t “look” gay because what the f gay look like ?
Jas: Challenging at first, navigating and being myself in a Christian household where there wasn’t much room to be contrary to the template that I was taught to be. It wasn’t until I moved away from home and studied abroad in college where I found myself, and allow myself to be free.
Embracing their LGBTQ+ identity was a significant aspect of Andreina and Jas’s journey. They both experienced internal struggles and societal challenges as they navigated their identities, but their love and support for each other became an anchor during these times. For Andreina, coming to terms with her sexuality was a personal odyssey that required introspection and self-acceptance.
